Science Fair

Play-Dough Recipes



 #1. Kool- Aid Play Dough

1 cup flour
1 cup water
1/2 cup salt
3 teaspoons Cream of Tarter
1 package Kool-Aid (any flavor of unsweetened, we used Black cherry)
1 tablespoon cooling oil

Combine ingredients together in a large saucepan. stir over medium heat until mixture thickens to dough.  Turn out onto a heatproof surface. Let cool for a few minutes and then knead for a few minutes.  Dough will be the color of the Kool-Aid mix and will smell like the flavor of the Kool-Aid mix.  Store in a tightly covered container or ziplock baggie.


#2. Jello Play Dough

1 cup flour (plus more when kneading)
1 cup water
2 tablespoons salt
2 tablespoons Cream of Tarter
2 tablespoons cooking oil
1 3oz pack of Jello

 Combine ingredients together in a large saucepan. stir over medium heat until mixture thickens to dough.  Turn out onto a heatproof surface. Let cool for a few minutes and then knead for a few minutes.  We had to add about 1/2 of additional flour because it was really sticky.  Dough will be the color of the Jello and will smell like the flavor of the Jello  Store in a tightly covered container or ziplock baggie.


#3 Basic Play Dough 

2 1/2 cups flour (plus more for kneading)
1/2 cup salt
1 tablespoon alum (a preservative usually found in the spice section at the grocery)
1 3/4 cup boiling water
2 tablespoons cooking oil
 food coloring (if desired)

Mix flour and salt in a large bowl.  In a glass measuring cup, mix alum, water, oil, and coloring and add to the flour/ salt mixture.  stir until slightly cool.  Knead well, adding flour until it stops sticking to your hands.  Keep in an airtight container when not in use.


#4 Peanut Butter Play Dough

2 cups powdered sugar
1 1/4 cups honey
1/4 cup agave
2 cups powdered milk
2 cups peanut butter

Combine all ingredients and knead with hands until it forms a ball.  If it's too sticky add more powdered sugar. Fun and yummy!  Store in an airtight container.  


#5 Chocolate Play Dough

3 cups powdered sugar
6 tablespoons cocoa powder
3/4 cup powdered milk
1/2 butter at room temperature MUST
1/2 cup light corn syrup
1 teaspoon vanilla

Mix and knead by hand until desired consistency, something like a Tootsie Roll.  You can mold the dough using your hands or roll it out flat and use cookie cutters to make fun shapes. When you're done you can eat it too! Yummy!
